Heekya Heekya Blog: Economic Challenges for a startup.

10.1.09

Economic Challenges for a startup.

Economic Challenges for a startup.

As Thomas Friedman writes in his book, 'The World is Flat,' what
happens in Bangalore affects us here in the US and what happens in the
technology corridors of the United States affects others around the
world. And so in this global economy we are all affected by the recent
economic travails.

Heekya too has been affected , both in our ability to raise capital
and in our discussions with partners. Angel investors who were great
prospects before in some cases have seen a 40% decline in net worth --
which in turn hampers their ability to invest in young startups like
Heekya.

Partners interested in Heekya technology now must walk each potential
deal through even more scrutiny as big and small companies alike seek
to tighten loose screws on their ships, and conserve cash.

But the beauty of building a technology company, even in a tough
economic environment ( or perhaps better said , especially in one ) is
that with open source tools and platforms are greatest expense -- and
our strongest assets -- our are people. And as we move forward in to
the new year and look to add to our stable of great story tellers and
technical minds, we look ahead with joy and not fear, because ,
despite the ever increasing challenges, as long as we can attract and
retain great people, Heekya will be in a great position to reach its
dream of allowing anybody , anywhere to share their story.
